We don’t know how to predict whether food will be good or awful – where can we find trustworthy reviews, or if you have had a positive or negative Cozumel experience, please share it with us! Cost does matter, but we don’t want bad food, and will pay, before we choose for cost only, but regret the choice. Please help novice travelers. Thanks so much!

Cozumel Mexico has been a prime vacation destination for some time now and once you get there you will quickly see why. However; there are a few things that you will want to keep in mind before you had out to any location in Mexico on a vacation, including Cozumel.
Off Season Bargains
Beware of bargain rate, off season vacation packages, for one big reason. That is because the pictures on the brochure don’t show the heat and the humidity. If you don’t mind sweltering heat and humidity you can cut with a knife then go for it, because everything is a bargain in the off season in all the Mexican resort areas.
Still Great Prices
Perhaps you have heard of taxi rides, 50 cent cocktails and mounding plates of sweet, delicious giant shrimp for .50. If you have, you can rest assured that the person who told you this visited Mexico back in the 1970s or 80s. Sure, there are still awesome deals, but not like that any more. Also, if you are planning on staying at one of the modern hotel resorts in a place like Cabo, don’t be shocked when you find the prices on food and drinks are even higher then in the states.
Travel Light
Do yourself a favor and travel light. Casual light dress is the norm and besides, its a lot more comfortable. Also, think twice before you pack expensive jewelry or video equipment and never leave anything in your hotel room that you wouldn’t mind being stolen. This rule particularly applies if you are stying in any of the cut rate hotels or motels.
Its Not Disneyland
While you are vacationing in Mexico never lose sight of the fact that you are in a foreign country, not Disneyland. For the most part, a – bribe will cover any minor scrapes that a tourists can find themselves in with the local cops, but that doesn’t mean that someone can do whatever they please. Be respectful of the local laws and remember that many an American tourist who couldn’t hold their booze has found themselves enjoying their vacation from a roach infested Mexican jail cell.

i am going on a cruise in a few weeks and the ports of call are Cozumel, Roatan, Belize and grand cayman. i want to do something a little bit different in each place, but they have so many excursion options that my head is spinning now! any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am going to Cozumel Mexico in early May. My boyfriend and I are going,(we’re in our twenties) and it’s an all-inclusive trip. We are going to go snorkeling, swimming with the dolphins, horseback riding, rent some jet ski’s, shop. I would really like some tips from people who have been there. Things I should know? Never been to the Carribean before!

I’m going on a cruise and want to make sure I get souvenirs that each country is known for. I plan on getting Cruzan Rum and something key lime from Key West and Jamaican coffee and rum from Jamaica but besides tequila, I’m not sure what to get from Cayman Islands and Cozumel.

Playa El Faro
One of the most appealing things about Playa Del Carmen is the convenience of the proximity between the main drag and the beach. In fact one can easily go down to the beach and within less than five minutes be walking around the main drag enjoying the delicacies. One such example is Playa El Faro, or The Lighthouse Beach, which is located just a few steps from 5th Avenue between 8th and 10th streets. Aptly named after a large lighthouse located right on the beach, this tiny slice of paradise has plenty of room for you to lie down and enjoy a little sunbathing. What can be more indulging than soaking up some sun rays while lying on the bare thick and white sand, maybe even allowing the fresh, turquoise water to touch your toes…ahhh! As you can see from the tour, there’s a water sports rental shop on the beach. Can having fun in the sun be any handier? In fact, I recommend you look for Jaime’s Marina which offers friendly and excellent service when it comes to snorkeling and sailing.
If you’re not staying in one of the beach-front hotels, don’t worry! These beach-front hotel offer services to the public regardless if you’re a guest or not. Some of their services include renting chairs and umbrellas. Feel free to enjoy a drink or a snack in one of these hotel’s restaurants and bars. During the day, these hotels allow you to make use of their showers, pools, and lockers. Talk about excellent service!
Cozumel Ferry Entrance
One of the primary attractions in Playa Del Carmen is the ferry. The ferry is located at the pier that is at the end of Calle 1 Sur (south 1st street). Upon arriving you’ll notice that there are only two ferry services, UltraMar and Mexico Water Jets. Just so you know, both services offer the same prices but somewhat different departure times. So where does this ferry take you? It takes you to Isla Cozumel, which is an island renown for its coral reefs, Chankanaab National Park, and Punta Sur Ecological Reserve. The majority of this island is a protected area. The ferry ride takes about thirty minutes to and thirty minutes back. A little advice would be to only purchase a one-way ticket, that way you’re not constricted due to the scheduled departure time of your return ticket. Also notice that the ferry companies don’t accept each other’s tickets, which is another reason to purchase a one-way ticket instead of round-trip.
