Located directly south of Cancun city and near to the Yucatán Peninsula, the beautiful island of Cozumel is the biggest and most significant island in the whole of Mexico. Cozumel is famous for its ancient Mayan remains, beautiful sandy beaches and also its unsurpassed scuba diving, being surrounded by the crystal-clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, which is always warm and inviting. It is a lovely place to book a vacation in a hotel in Mexico and enjoy a great vacation. There are many things that you can see and do on this island and here are the most popular of them.
1. Beaches- the most popular attractions in Cozumel are its lovely beaches and they are concentrated mainly around the main city of San Miguel. Here you can find wonderful accommodation options in friendly Cozumel hotels and enjoy a fascinating vacation. Scuba diving and snorkeling are the most practiced sports here.
2. Museums- There is a number of quality museums, the majority of which are to be found within the town of San Miguel. Particularly impressive is the Museo de la Isla de Cozumel, the town’s premier museum, which is full of ancient Mayan relics and offers a comprehensive overview of Cozumel and its many different aspects, both past and present. Guided tours of the Museo de la Isla de Cozumel are available and ensure that you get the most out of your visit to this particular museum.
3. Shopping- Souvenir shopping is always popular with tourists visiting Cozumel and most of the island’s shops are happy to accept payment by various means, including Mexican pesos, US dollars, credit cards and traveller’s cheques. Many of the main shopping areas on Cozumel become particularly crowded at midday and close shortly after for the afternoon, reopening later to capture the passing evening trade.
4. Parks and Gardens- Parks, gardens and nature reserves are located all around the island of Cozumel, with many of the most popular parks lying off the Costera Sur Highway. Those with an interest in scuba diving will find the tempting underwater scenery around the Parque Chankanaab and the Parque Marino de Cozumel worth exploring. The Parque Punta Sur is an appealing natural beauty spot and enjoys a coastal setting, where snorkelling is a major pastime, while the nearby Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, close to Cozumel, is famous for its many monkeys.
5. Cozumel Festivals- If you are lucky enough for your holiday in Cozumel to coincide with some of the city’s largest festivals, such as the spectacular February Cozumel Carnival, you will likely be overwhelmed with the free entertainment on offer. Other popular events and festivals in Cozumel include the International Billfish Tournament in March, when it is likely that you will get to see some truly enormous fish caught from the surrounding waters.
If you are planning a vacation to the beautiful country of Mexico it could be a great idea to book online hotel in Cozumel in advance. It is guaranteed that you will have the best discounted price.
Too much to drink at Carlos N Charlie’s in Cozumel. by Jemingway
We were thinking sea turtle snorkel in cozumel, the river tubing in belize, ziplining in roatan and maybe the stingray thing in grand cayman? do you think these are the best ideas? Anyones that are better? thanks!
And when the whole experience takes place in a wonderful place like Cozumel, then your vacation can’t be otherwise than perfect. Not everyone is crazy about fishing, but if you go to Cozumel, then you will see it from a completely different angle. There are probably the surroundings that make people fall in love with Cozumel fishing. Here, you will find one of the most beautiful places that you have ever seen and, if you opt for this sport, then you have the great advantage of finding enough time to admire the beauty that comes across your eyes.
If fishing Cozumel is one of the most important activities that you want to do here, make sure that you take a little time, for you and for those close ones to you, to visit all this beautiful Mexican Island has to offer. Of course, you don’t have to give up on your dreams and plans to vertical jigging Cozumel for example, but it would be a really big loss if you’d leave without admiring the beauties of this little piece of Heaven on Earth.
Taking a vacation is not that easy these days and when you have the chance to do it, the wisest thing to do is to make the most of it. Under these circumstances, if you love deep sea fishing in Cozumel you will have the most amazing experience, but what can be beyond your imagination is to actually see the real deep sea life with your own eyes. It will be an unforgettable experience to go scuba diving here and see this ecosystem, which we can destroy easily if we don’t pay close attention to.
Sport fishing fans will have the best time in the world on this Mexican island, an island that many people come to visit, for the wonderful things they find here, Cozumel fishing included. There are really amazing things that you can see here and the places where you can go scuba diving are just a small part of a bigger picture. So, you can see here wonderful Mayan archaeological sites, or if you love golf, then you can combine fly fishing Cozumel with the golf courses that tourists find here.
No matter if you are be able to see the entire island when you come here on vacation, the one thing that you can be sure of is that you’ll have one of the most incredible experiences with Cozumel fishing. All you have to do is take the equipment with you, or even better, you can find a place on the island from where you can rent it. It is a sure thing that you won’t stay the entire vacation to go fishing Cozumel, because the surroundings will push you to want to see more. And you have plenty to do or see on the island.
But many people love this Mexican Island for the Cozumel fishing they find here as being really amazing, with great spots for this sport. With the right equipment that you must bring and the beautiful surroundings, your fishing trips will be the most wonderful experiences that you ever had until then. Of course, if you don’t live on the island, you need to make sure that you make a reservation for everything necessary, such as flight ticket, hotel etc.
Fishing Cozumel can be a great way of spending your vacation and, if you keep in mind the scenery, then it will be impossible to leave the place without your batteries fully charged. But before you start your fishing experience here, you need to make sure that you have the right equipment with you, in accordance with the type of Cozumel fishing that you need to do. To rush things and to discover that you don’t have the necessary things with you is not a good idea. This is the reason why you need to take the time and see what equipment you have and what else you need.
If you enjoy deep-sea fishing, you need to rent a boat or a yacht and be sure that you take with you the special tools you need for this type of sport fishing. Also, a really good idea would be to make a quick research and discover the perfect places where you can have success in your fishing Cozumel experience. For example, dolphins are a sign for the presence of tuna close by.
Another type of this sport is the fly fishing Cozumel and, as the name says, people who practice this sport will tie up an artificial fly on the hook of the rod. In this way, the bait will look real for the fishes that you are trying to catch. This type of sport fishing is used by fans when they try to catch trout, bonefish or other types of delicious sea food. Of course, like in any other type of fishing, the proper equipment is the key to success. Under these circumstances, you need the fly fishing poles, line and reel. But even though you have all these, it is important to not forget about the flies.
When it comes to Cozumel fishing, the most important part is to enjoy the time you spend here, no matter if you opt for vertical jigging Cozumel or for any other type of sport fishing. It is your free time and it can be relaxing taking advantage of your experience here. Cozumel is the perfect place where you can leave all your problems and worries away and you can have the time of your life on an island that is one of the most beautiful places that you can see in this life.
The island of Cozumel, located a 45 minute boat ride off the shore about an hour south of Cancun, is currently a favorite for retirees and other expats buying Mexico real estate and living in this country. Significant news for this market within Mexico is that an important step has been taken in moving the island’s new Marina toward completion.
The significant step seen in early 2011 was the signing of an agreement with representatives from the hotel InterContinental, to start with the construction of the entrance to the marina. With the new agreement, the Cozumel Marina project could move ahead at full tilt during February 2011. The project is funded by the National Fund for Tourism Development (Fonatur), and is located on the south of the island.
The construction of the new marina in Cozumel will offer a new outlet for high-quality Mexico property on the island. Mexico beachfront for sale often receives added value, and offers buyers a higher level of lifestyle due to tourism-focused infrastructure, especially large-scale projects such as this marina.
So far the Cozumel Marina has seen an investment of over 200 million pesos (about million USD) and has been awaiting an agreement with the hotel in order to complete the final stage of the project.
The conclusion of this marina will mean excellent opportunities for the island in terms of investment, tourism and promotion, since it will be another attraction for the island. The marina represents the potential to attract visitors and real estate buyers with larger purchasing power, and offer events such as international sailing competitions.
The Cozumel Marina also represents the feasibility of having more hotel rooms; larger tourism numbers also means further investment into infrastructure and business, offering real estate buyers more convenience and lifestyle activities.
The marina will have a capacity of more than 300 boats, large-scale condo construction, as well as restaurants and shopping options.
The progress of the marina’s construction will be a very important step forward for the island’s real estate market.

For Americans and Canadians considering a Mexico retirement, the island of Cozumel provides a clear example of how retirees can enjoy a very relaxing lifestyle, with modern conveniences, and at very accessible prices. A new ferry line to the main land for 2011is one of many factors demonstrating this point.
While Cozumel is already served by two ferry lines running to Playa del Carmen on the mainland – a 45 minute boat ride away – the city council has approved plans and worked with a private company in order to offer third, more affordable line for those who make the trip frequently, or prefer to spend these savings on other items.
Over the past few decades, a growing number of Americans and Canadians have chosen to retire in Cozumel, investing in a Mexico beachfront property, overlooking the white beaches and turquoise water of the Caribbean Sea. Mexico condos for sale in Cozumel can be found on a variety of areas throughout the island, including in the town itself. There are also many options available off the beachfront, offering close contact with the island’s very well preserved, lush, green nature.
Whether retirees choose to invest in a luxury condo on the beach, or a property off the waterfront, they will see considerable savings compared to similar properties in the U.S. In addition, the cost of living is also considerably lower.
While the existing ferry lines have a fairly accessible price of about USD per trip, the new line is specifically focused on offering more savings, and is expected to be about 40% less, or a bit more than .
In addition to benefiting retirees and other residents of Cozumel directly, the new, low-priced ferry service is also expected to draw more tourists who are visiting the Cancun and Playa del Carmen area. Increased and more diverse tourism will also draw more investment and new services to the island, thus indirectly providing more benefits to its residents.
The city has worked closely with the new company to ensure that the quality and comfort of the transportation is high, and that it will show social responsibility to its workers and the community.
Through efforts such as this one, retiring on Cozumel’s beachfront continues to become a more attractive option.

Named by the ancient Mayans who once lived there, Cozumel translates to “land of the swallows” the indigenous birds that inhabit the island. The island on the east side of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico is a land mass 30miles long and 10miles wide.
The popularity of the island has developed over the last 50 years starting in 1959 with discover and documentarist Jacques Cousteau discovering and publicizing the coral reefs at the south of Cozumel Island as one of the best places for scuba diving in the world.
In 1992 Cozumel built a deepwater pier for cruise ships to dock and in the 1996 the Mexican government established the Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park to protect the marine life in the park boundaries. The island population has grown from 12,000 in the 1970′s to approximately 100,000 today as tourism grew.
Known for it beautiful coral reefs, diving, sports fishing, snorkeling, and beaches. Scuba diving is the most popular attraction of Cozumel today. There are also tours of the ancient Mayan civilizations for your enjoyment. The interior of the island is underdeveloped covered by thick forest and lagoons making it home to many birds and small mammals.
Most people arrive to Cozumel by the means of cruise ships, as it has become a stopping point in many cruise lines’s Caribbean destination. With thousands of visitors daily, it is imperative that you plan your visit to make the best use of the time you’ll on the island. For more ideas on places to stay visit http://www.greatvacationspots.net/
The sandy beaches on the west side of the island have calmer waters making them best for swimming. But not for snorkeling since the sandy sea decreases the visibility in the water. Instead go to the limestone areas on the west for snorkeling. The east side of the island is lovely but the surf creates strong breakers and undertows, making it very dangerous. The popular beaches on the west side are Playa San Francisco, Playa Sol, and Playa Corona. The east side beaches are Punta Chiquero, Playa Chen Rio, and Playa Orinte.
If you are coming for a short stay and want to see the island, I recommend renting a taxi for the day to take you around the island; they can leave you at one of the beaches or other popular site if you want to stay. There will be plenty of taxis to take you back to the cruise dock afterwards. This way you won’t waste time trying to get around and find the attractions yourself, since many places and streets are not well marked.

Going on Carnival cruise to cozumel and progresso.. Is there anywhere someone will recommend to get alcohol? Never been on this cruise and when I think about mexico I imagine being able to get cheap alcohol anywhere and get drunk so just asking if this is true and what place after we make our stops has someone been to, to get drunk at? That is basically my mission
The new air route of American Airlines (http://www.travelhouseuk.co.uk/airlines/AA-american_airlines.htm) is much anticipated and exciting news that will minimize the distances between Chicago and Cozumel, Mexico like never before. The airline has announced yesterday, the launch of new service from Chicago to Cozumel, Mexico. The service will prove a great deal for the Mexican residents and migrants in US while also, it will be the shortest way around and most convenient for holiday makers. Mexico has recently risen as a strong holiday destination; travelers from round the world come to revive at the stunning Mexican beaches that are a more affordable replica of any Caribbean beach. The country is currently seeing an increase in tourism that can prove worthwhile for its annual revenue and a stronger economy. The ‘drug and gang war’ reputation of Mexico however is still there but gradually fading away by increased tourism boom and government actions. Also, the ‘red zone’ or danger areas in Mexico are restricted for tourists anyways.
The Flights to Chicago (http://www.travelhouseuk.co.uk/flights/usa_canada/chicago.htm) and Cozumel will be only ‘once a week’ and the Saturday-only service will begin from Saturday, Feb. 12. The service is planned to continue through April 2, 2011. The flight will return to American’s schedule for the winter season in November 2011. At this occasion, American Airline’s Vice President for Central Division Passenger Sales, Mr. Tom Aichele stated:
We’re very excited to be offering this new flight from Chicago O’Hare to Cozumel. Midwesterners enjoy traveling to Mexico and other sunny, warm destinations during the cold winter months and this new flight will give them yet another location to enjoy.
We can also speculate that if American Airline’s flights to Cozumel will be a success in the coming year, and manage to attract more than just ‘seasonal tourists’, the airline may consider making the Chicago to Cozumel route, a permanent service.
