Cozumel – Scuba Divers Paradise

Cozumel Mexico is one of the great dive spots in the world and only 6 hours from Seattle.  I have vacationed in the Yucatan a few times, primarily Cancun, but had never taken the ferry from Playa Del Carmen across the bay to Cozumel Island, an east 40 minute trip.  Cozumel is just off the east coast of the Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and is Mexico’s largest island,  around 300 square miles, but the town with less than 100,000 residents may receive as many as fourmillion visitors each year.  Unlike Cancun, Cozumel is not a touristy location.
In recent years some tourist shops have sprung up to feed the hunger of the cruise ship guests, but two blocks from the town center and you’re in avery quaint and a wonderful old world area.

The beach is the main attraction in Cozumel. The clear warm waters of the Caribbean are perfect for a wide range of aquatic activities from swimming, to snorkeling, to sport fishing, and finally to diving. Cozumel is also home to the second largest coral reef in the world which attracts divers from all over the world, and with amazing beautiful blue rich water with 100
feet of visibility on an average day anyone will cherish diving in Cozumel.

Most of the dive sites are rocky teeming with plenty of rich, beautiful Coral.  Large and small sea fans are present everywhere and the area is home to more than 200 species of tropical fish representing every color in the rainbow.  It’s simply bursting alive with huge schools of fish; Turtles, large Surgeonfish, Barracuda, Blue and Gold Snapper, Triggerfish, Moorish Idols, bright blue butterflies, and huge Parrotfish.  I was also fortunate enough to get a shot of
a Dolphin passing by on my first visit, but that is very rare.  I have captured shots of morays; Green, Jewel and Stripped Morays.

A very appealing time to dive for me in Cozumel is twilight.  Many of the nocturnal creatures begin to hunt and present themselves for great photographic splendor.  I have taken many night shots of small to large octopus, lobster and varieties of crab.

Snorkeling is a popular activity and small underwater scooters are available for rent to
help you cover the miles of reef which make Cozumel famous. There are also numerous opportunities to swim with dolphins, manatees or sea lions.

The ungles of Cozumel can be a fun way to spend a day also.  Whether guided tour by jeep or a rugged ATV on our own, there is much to see in the Jade Caverns.  You will encounter dramatic waterfalls and ool lagoons for swimming as well as ruins from the Mayan civilization.

Cozumel s a great spot to charter a fishing boat too. The waters around the island are
an excellent spot to catch Sailfish and Blue Marlin. If fishing is not for you, there are glass bottom boats and submarines that will take you out to let you see the beauty of the area.

When I am in Cozumel I will only dive with Aldora Divers.   This dive charter company
not only has the reputation of being the most professional and the most knowledgeable, but they also provide steel 120 tanks on each dive, much larger than a typical dive company.   Everyone from Memo Aldora himself to Steve who manages the Villa, to the Dive Master’s like Javier, Raul and Liang who will take you to the best places to dive.  Palencar Reef is the main attraction on the south west side of the island.  But most other dive companies
will only dive a few of the more shallow areas repeatedly.  Aldora DM’s are so familiar with the reef; they know where to dive, even if it’s a few hundred feet north or south.  They want you to explore the less traveled, but more interesting areas.   I cannot say enough about the Aldora, they are simply the best dive company providing wonderful professional service in a
beautiful place to dive.

I was planning a vacation in one of these places with my husband, and he would like to go scuba diving (I don’t have the license). Anyway, I was wondering if Cozumel is much better than Playa del Carmen for that purpose.
Thank you!

Off the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, Cozumel is located. It is a Caribbean Sea island too. Scuba diving in Cozumel with much interesting sights has been loved by divers. This used to be home to Mayan goddesses and a hideaway for pirates.

Today it is better recognized for its beautiful barrier reef that is the second largest in the world. Divers are presented with some of the best scuba diving anywhere too. Ranging from wildlife to wrecks, there are so many different things to explore. To safeguard all the natural resources there, the government of Mexico developed a National Park across a 25-mile area of the reefs.

Most of the divers that come to Cozumel are attracted by this park. They love to explore the caves and wrecks, along with the marine creatures that thrive in the water around all of Cozumel. These interesting things draw all levels of divers to do scuba diving in Cozumel.

Learner divers delight in the coral found in the shallower areas close to shore. Tunnels and the labyrinths in the coral pinnacles attract the divers that are a bit more experienced. Heading for the areas that have the drop offs and the high walls excites the expert divers. Let’s examine these areas more to know why the divers like them so much.

Santa Rosa Wall is one of the places that attract the expert divers. The drop off into an abyss that is quite deep that in some places is about 100 feet. You have to familiarize your diving to dive in this area though. The currents are too tough for the novice divers. Intermediate divers could also dive here. From the large sponges to the tunnels and caves, there is much to see.

Intermediate divers likely set out toward areas like Palancar Horseshoe. The coral labyrinths reach as high as 100 feet and go down to 20 feet under the surface. Scuba diving through the tunnels, caves and the various other features renders for the extreme in dive experiences. Exciting quests like this bring people scuba diving in Cozumel.

Learners can find the coral gardens near the shore. As shallow as 30 feet are the reefs in some areas. The currents are not as tough so it is manageable for the divers who are just learning or without much experience. These divers can encounter star corals, sponges, moray eels, and more in these clear waters.

Diving at night should not be missed when you visit Cozumel. After dark, the underwater environment takes on a mystical feeling. You are still about to see more activities as well.

In Cozumel, there is much of history to unearth. You can drop in on the local Mayan ruins and an old historic lighthouse. Next to this, there are the dazzling sunsets, beaches, and the blue waters that are crystal clear for a plunge.

Now doesn’t scuba diving in Cozumel catches your interest? Whether you are exploring the tunnels or the coral reefs and caves, you will have an intense experience. The diving with diving apparatus is the use of the equipment of breathing of the independent one to remain underneath the water by long periods of the time. This equipment is used for the recreational and professional jump. The diving with diving apparatus is not as soon as a way of the diversion to remain adjustment, but provides the views and the experiences that are simply unique. Perhaps the most extensive availability of the equipment and the instructors certificates would induce more people than it explored the submarine, more thanks to the Internet than you can cheap obtain the gear of diving equipment easily.

The diving with diving apparatus is not only a popular activity by everybody, but a experience that will be recorded to the strong water in its heart by always. The diving with diving apparatus is diversion, and we have taste to see turtles, sharks, the chorale, fish, invertebrates, nudibranchs, crabs, molluscs, molluscs, the eels, rays of puncture, rays of blanket, and the shrimp. The diving with diving apparatus is great diversion and can abrir the way so that you discover the diversity of the amazing subaqueous world.

The diving with diving apparatus is a sport that is without pair. It ‘ the great S.A. solves, but it considered man&amp generally; #039 sluggish; sport of s (you ‘ re floating 98% of the time). The diving with diving apparatus is greatly different from other sports and reconstructions in this necessity. In other sports, there is little necessity to belong to or of the registry with certain organization. The diving with diving apparatus is popular in Cancun, although it ‘ to spectacular not so of s as in Cozumel. It looks for a company of the diving equipment that gives portions to him of personal attention: smaller companies are often better in this than greatest. The diving with diving apparatus is a sport of relaxation, action-packed and exciting that can be enjoyed by all.

The evidence demonstrates that people have themselves been zambulliendo for millares of years, to look for the food, looks for the treasure, in the art of war or to simply observe the world underneath the waves. The diving with diving apparatus practices as a recreational sport as well as the means to lead the military research and scientific. The diving with diving apparatus is to give exit to one of the most exciting odd habits to take. This activity takes to the depths, literally and appeared. The diving with diving apparatus is a fantastic way of learning on the seas in which, the human race, we trusted to support world ‘ ecosystem of s. Australia is very lucky to be surrounded by some by diverse the marine biological ecosystems of the world. The diving with diving apparatus safe and is very cheap compared to other excursions offered in the tourist centers.

The diving with diving apparatus is one of the most popular activity of the water sport of the country – diver ‘ paradise of s, rich navy of a jewel in sealife and amazing subaqueous landscape. Some of my favourite destinations are diving with diving apparatus in Australia and the diving with diving apparatus in the island of Thailand.Cabilao is one of the best place of the plunge of the Philippines and is the perfect point of the plunge for nascent and the experience dabchicks. The diving with diving apparatus is an intensive sport of the equipment. If we must get to be good in him, we must use the same equipment we do whenever it. My advice is so you you are thinking around about the learning or on the amazing sport of the diving with diving apparatus he is not: he goes for him for you you will love sure and you will make a dabchick of eager equipment of diving.

Scuba Diving in Cozumel After a Hurricane

The last time I dove in Cozumel, which was spectacular, but Hurricane Emily through since. Has anyone been diving in Cozumel in the last year? Can you tell me what the reefs? Thank you!

The Best Scuba Diving in Cozumel

There are lots of great dive sites in the Caribbean, but to make it to the top of the list? We will give our opinion. We have done a lot of diving in the Caribbean, but these sites are those that still remember and compare all other dives to.

Our list: *

Naufragio of Chikuzen, Tortola, British Virgin Islands

I loved this site. Was (and remains) the best wreck dive we have done. The sinking of the

Chikuzen is out of this final 12 miles NW Tortola and Virgin Gorda. This site is dependent on the time it may or may not be able to leave. Fortunately, the weather cooperated and we were able to dive the wreck (which were on Virgin Gorda). When descends

mooring line to wait for the other divers, we went directly to a school of barracuda. Now I’m used to seeing a lone barracuda, or a few together, but there must be at least a hundred of them. And this was only in the bottom of the mooring line. That got better from there. Definitely one of our biggest dive ever in the Caribbean.

We saw black tip sharks, rays of the lots, horse-eye jacks, pompano, spadefish and more. This is the place to come if you like big fish and lots of fish. And to top it all off, we heard the song of whales at the end of the dive. And we have not even mentioned the wreck. How could it not be one of our best dives? *

Pidgeon, Bequia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines

This is often a surprise (and for us too, because the rest of the dive we did in Bequia was good but not spectacular). However, this was wonderful diving. It was my husband, myself and the divemaster (there is a lot better than diving).

The water is crystal clear and the sun was shining on the coral, making the colors brighter. There was a slight current so that it could drift along the reef with a little kick. Lots of marine life to observe.

I remember thinking, “This is why immersion.” It was just a great and easy on the holiday. Definitely one of the top dives we have done.

* Name unknown, Bimini, Bahamas

know, sorry – but you will be able to find it. We went to Bimini from Florida in a boat and the boat dove instead of a dive shop. We’re tethered to a mooring buoy while we have done. Then jumped in. That was the beginning of a fun drift dive.

We were flying! The coral formations and beautiful as it is a beautiful, sunny day, the colors were bright. Since the current was strong, we could not fail to consider many things, but it was fine. It’s a hell of a fun dive.

Along the way, we saw a plaque dedicated under someone had died. Therefore, the mooring buoy and the plate, one of the local dive shops, or will be able to say that we (my brother in law of the GPS broke so lost the coordinates). The next time you go to Bimini, we find again and I will publish the update.

* Horseshoe, Cozumel, Mexico Cozumel

is almost a mecca for divers and was there several times. You will find lots of great dive sites of Cozumel, but outside it is highlighted and is one of my favorites.

This site has incredible formations with tunnels in and around the formations. We’ve seen a lot of marine life including eels, sharks, barracuda, just to name a few. A cool dive and definitely on the top diving in Cozumel.

So there you have it. Our list of 4 of the best dives we have done. If these dive sites, we hope you enjoy as much as we did. To read about our favorite all-time top diving in the Caribbean, No. 1 on our list, please visit our website.
